How the total time is calculated
For the nearest facilities to you, ERPulse asks Google Maps for the current driving time with live traffic and adds the current wait. Results are sorted by that total.
Where wait times come from
- Published by hospitals: where a hospital publishes live emergency wait estimates, ERPulse checks them regularly.
- Reported by patients: people who recently waited can share how long it took. Recent reports are combined into a median estimate.
- Estimates: when a facility has no recent data, ERPulse starts from its official Ontario Health monthly average wait to see a doctor, adjusted to how busy nearby hospitals are right now. Where no average exists, it uses nearby live waits or a typical wait. Estimates are always labelled.
- Facility locations: addresses and map positions come from the Ontario Ministry of Health list of hospital sites and from OpenStreetMap. Contains information licensed under the Open Government Licence – Ontario. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
What the colours mean
Green means under 2 hours, yellow 2 to 4 hours, and red 4 hours or more.
Important limits
Emergency departments see patients by urgency, not arrival order, so your own wait may be shorter or longer. ERPulse does not give medical advice and is not a substitute for 911. For health advice from a registered nurse, call Health811 at 811.
